ABOUT US

We Are

THINKERS & DOERS

The University College London Union Public Affairs and Social Service (UCLU PASS) Society was founded in 2011 by a group of Hong Kong students who shared an enthusiasm for current affairs and harboured a passion for helping those in need.

Four years on from her establishment, UCLUPASS continues to provide a platform for UCL students to increase their awareness of issues pervading the world; and to take part in active social service to benefit the less fortunate.

As a society, we define ourselves as an intellectual community that is not only aware of our surroundings, but is also motivated to constantly engage in new challenges. We debate and discuss current affairs, while proposing new ideas to solve the ever present socio-economic and geopolitical problems. We as a society also strive to arouse students' interest in this area, by encouraging our fellow peers to examine these social issues in multi-perspectives through various activities.

We also provide numerous opportunities for our members to help those in need. Understanding how privileged we are as university students in a wonderful learning environment, we not only cherish the opportunities given, but would also like to give back to our society. Besides, what better ways are there to gain a thorough insight into our society than working hand-in-hand with various stakeholders to tackle different social problems? Therefore, we organize different service programmes throughout the year for our members to enrich their experience outside classrooms.

Our Career and Events branch has been established since 2014, aspired to provide Hong Kong students with guidance and support in their career development. We establish ties with firms from various industries and organize a number of careers events, including mentorship programmes, skills sessions and firm visits, with the aim of maximizing members’ exposure to careers opportunities.

Membership is open to all UCL students and alumni.

AIMS

To raise awareness about sociopolitical
and environmental issues in Hong Kong, China and the rest of the world through discussion and debate;

To benefit the underprivileged through social service activities such as volunteering and fundraising;

To provide a platform for UCL students to be exposed to information about different careers; and

To collaborate with other societies and universities in order to promote the exchange of ideas

Our society values the holistic development of our members, and encourages our peers to become Global Citizens - those who are politically and socially aware and are passionate in creating a better living environment. Our events are especially tailored to develop members’ critical thinking skills, as well as to spark their interest in meaningful global issues.

Throughout our events, members are given different opportunities to develop their public speaking skills and confidence which are quintessential in the modern economic world. They are also given opportunities to develop their leadership, time-management and interpersonal skills as some, if not many will be allowed to organize activities in the name of the society or even organize the Flagship events.
